Gillies McIndoe Research Institute

We are an internationally recognised research institute with world-class laboratories in Wellington, New Zealand. We exist to find better ways of treating cancer, vascular birthmarks (strawberry birthmarks), and fibrotic conditions.

About Us

Despite progress in understanding cancer and disfiguring conditions development and treatment, many patients still face limited treatment options, high treatment costs, and poor outcomes. There is a critical need for a research institute dedicated to advancing the scientific understanding of these diseases and conditions and developing effective therapies that improve patient outcomes.

We undertake innovative research, turning scientific discoveries into therapies that help people prevent or manage prevalent life-threatening diseases and disfiguring conditions. The outcome of our research is to make treatment less invasive, more equitable, and affordable. These efforts are necessary for patients to avoid significant physical, emotional, and financial burdens.

We have developed an international reputation for our research with our state-of-the-art laboratories and talented research team that continues to break new ground. Our work can include molecular biology, developing organoids and cell culture models, immunohistochemistry, proteomics, metabolomics, drug development, physiology, and clinical trials.
